The standard air intake fitted to the Mercedes A35 AMG was designed with cost and packaging in mind, not outright performance. It features several sharp bends and changes in pipe diameter that restrict airflow and contribute to higher intake temperatures – both of which limit what the turbocharged 2.0 litre engine is capable of. This Wagner Tuning intake system is a direct replacement that tackles those restrictions head-on.

What It Does and Why It Matters

The kit replaces the factory intake pipework with a straight-flowing 76mm plastic intake pipe, which is larger and more direct than the original setup. It sits in the lower right wheel arch – a cooler area, away from engine heat – and connects to the turbocharger (the forced induction unit that compresses air into the engine) via a reinforced silicone adapter hose. At the intake end sits a large open sports air filter, which allows more air to pass through with less resistance than a standard paper element.

Wagner Tuning claims an increase in air mass flow rate of up to 90% over the standard system. In practical terms, this means the engine receives a greater volume of cooler, less restricted air – which supports sharper throttle response and helps the engine breathe more freely throughout the rev range. You may also notice a more pronounced induction sound under acceleration, which is a natural characteristic of an open filter setup.

To set realistic expectations: this intake will not transform peak power figures on its own, but it does remove a genuine restriction from the factory system and provides headroom for better performance, particularly when paired with an ECU remap (engine software tune) or other supporting modifications.
